Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo | Review

Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo recensione

We begin this review by thanking Mondiversi and Moreno Pedrinzani for providing us with a copy of Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo. This is the second essay published by Mondiversi that takes into consideration the most famous roleplaying game and then expands the discussion on other fronts. If Storia del Gioco di Ruolo più Famoso del Mondo had in some way opened the doors to the topic, Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco ii Ruolo goes a step further. A detailed and in-depth analysis of the different topics, linked by numerous quotes and insights.

For those who are still not convinced, let’s take a closer look at what this essay is about and what it’s about.

Let’s Take a Look at Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo

Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo is a 275-page paperback essay. About 35 of these are a collection of images from various realities related to roleplaying.

A journey into the past that I enjoyed finding references and discovering interesting novelties. The essay presents the origins of the most famous roleplaying game in the world, allowing us to reflect on its evolution. We are often used to imagining the roleplaying games as a simple set of rules and tables that are updated in the different editions. We almost never stop to reflect on what brought about this change. Starting from the very concept of roleplaying game, the author traces the stages of its evolution. He focuses in particular on the socio-cultural context that shaped it.

What are we talking about

One of the things I appreciated most is that the author does not limit himself exclusively to the American panorama. He also develops a more general discourse that embraces a very broad and varied spatial horizon.

Similar to what happens with the geographical horizon, the temporal one does not disappoint. In fact, we find an overview starting from the games that can be considered as the precursors of D&D. Then we can read about its birth and its evolution over time, never losing sight of the general historical and cultural context. This allows us to understand something that seems obvious: each game is born in response to a need of the period in which it is written.

Final Thoughts on the Review of Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo

Dal Gioco di Guerra al Gioco di Ruolo is a very interesting essay, which allowed me to think about aspects of roleplaying that I would have never explored in depth.

Unfortunately, by its very nature, it is not very fluent in some parts and the use of academic language does not always help the reader to maintain high attention.

Despite this, between the pages we can perceive the enormous passion and the great work of the author in the research of the sources of information. The intent of the publisher to have a quality publication has certainly been achieved.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to analyze the cultural aspects of roleplaying games.
