ManyMinis | Review

manyminis eng

Before getting into this review, we’d like to thank the Old Skull Minis team for providing us with several ManyMinis packs. As the name suggests, these are sets of fantasy paper miniatures, ideal for a wide variety of board games, roleplaying games, and wargames.

If you’d like to purchase these packs, you can find them on the Itch.io platform for $5 (just over €4 based on the current exchange rate) at the following link. We also want to point out that the set featuring the Play Festival del Gioco Moongha is a free-to-play offering, which includes the option to download it for free.

What are the ManyMinis?

ManyMinis are printable paper miniatures, designed for easy assembly and use in fantasy settings of all kinds. Each pack comes in a block of downloadable files that includes:

  • 8 different miniatures
  • various files that allow you to choose the format
  • the choice between color or black and white files

Assembly is quick and easy: all you need is a pair of scissors and a little glue. Ideal for those looking for affordable miniatures to print and use immediately!

Alternatively, if you manage to get your hands on the pre-printed paper packs (at events and fairs, perhaps), you’ll find them divided by set, each inside its own plastic bag containing everything listed above plus a 7×10 grid for skirmishes and placements.

The Available Sets and Their Strong Points

There are currently 6 thematic sets available:

  • Heroes and Villains
  • Heroes and Villains 2
  • Orcs and Goblins
  • Undead
  • Wild Beasts
  • Moongha (the mascot of Play – Festival del Gioco)

My favorite? Without a doubt, the Moongha set, an iconic monster represented in various truly inspired forms. A little gem for collectors and enthusiasts.

If I think about the strength of ManyMinis, it’s undoubtedly its versatility. The included characters (wizards, warriors, orcs, skeletons, etc.) can easily be used in a wide range of games: Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, HeroQuest, or any game that requires tokens or miniatures.

Even the Moongha, despite its “special” nature, fits well as a boss or unique creature.

As for the grids, although they are all identical across the various sets, their presence is useful for quick sessions or for those who don’t have dedicated boards. Furthermore, by collecting many sets, multiple grids can be combined to form a large one.

ManyMinis Design and Format Review

The ManyMinis design is strongly reminiscent of ’90s style: bright colors, bold contrasts, and strong lines. If you love the old-school fantasy aesthetic, you’ll immediately feel at home. If you prefer a more modern or minimalist style, however, you might find them less to your liking. Personally, I found the Moongha design particularly successful, with details that make it the true protagonist of the table, despite being far from “classic” monsters.

The miniatures measure approximately 3.5 cm tall and 3 cm wide, perfect for visibility and practicality during play. Being made of paper, they are lightweight, easy to carry, and difficult to damage, a significant advantage for those who frequently play on the go or in a group.

ManyMinis Review Conclusions

In conclusion, Old Skull Minis’ ManyMinis are a smart, practical, and affordable option for those looking for retro-inspired tabletop fantasy miniatures. They’re perfect for enhancing your gaming sessions with style and without spending too much. A simple yet effective product that fully achieves its goal: offering versatile, high-quality paper miniatures at an affordable price.

If you love old-school style and are looking for lightweight and functional alternatives to plastic or resin miniatures, ManyMinis packs are definitely worth a try!

If you enjoyed this ManyMinis review, stay tuned for more tabletop RPG accessories!
